Hurricane Ike had lost most of it's punch by the time it reached us 200 miles north of Houston.
We received a lot of wind and rain but little damage. Our only inconvenience was no electricity. The boredom of "hunkering down" to wait out the storm led me to dig out a box of old magazines to read by candle light. I'm glad I did, in issue #67 of Linuxuser & Developer was an article about Leo and crew, it made me smile.

Down on the Farm with the Canon a590
The trip to the farm with the canon a590 was interesting, the little camera has potential. I like the option of manual control or full auto point and shoot, and it fits in my pocket. It sure beats lugging around the old Ftb and a sack of glass. For 150 bucks it's a bargain even if it doesn't shoot in RAW out of the box. A sample of the experiments are posted at flickr, I'll post more later.....jwilliam

New Camera.. A590 canon Power Shot
This was the second day of playing around with the camera. The first day I spent playing with the menu and settings. Mostly took a lot of pictures of my shoes.
This has been tacked to my bulletin board for a couple of years.....do pass it on.
This little guy was on the path to the mail box today. Google says he's a Crablike Spiny Orb-Weaver (Gasteracantha elipsoides) and he's supposed to be friendly.
Hand held macro with flash...not bad for a $150.00 pocket camera. I have a trip to the old farm planed this week. I'll put this cam in my right pocket and fill my left pocket with batteries. ........jwilliam...

I have a funny feeling about this UI
Is it just me or does this Plurk timeline remind you of HEE HAW. Remember, heads popping out of a cornfield saying weird shit.

No microsoft crap allowed
Microsoft has pissed in my lunch box for the last time.
If it's not the latest update hosing the system it's MS calling me a thief.
Windows problem is not the software, it's the damn parent
company....and they say I should get vista..
I say they can kiss my ass goodbye.
Now, where did I put that latest Debian disk?
